A special ceremony, including a parade and flag-raising, was held at Aberdeenshire Council headquarters yesterday at Woodhill House in Aberdeen in honour of Britain’s Armed Forces.
Dozens of guests, including representatives from all the Armed Forces, attended the celebrations.
There were speeches from Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, James Ingleby; Vice Lord Lieutenant of Kincardineshire, Dr Andrew Orr, and Commanding Officer of the Aberdeen Universities Officer Training Corps (AUOTC), Lieutenant Colonel Paul Binnie.
Cadet Sergeant Jordan Watters, nominated by Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Clare Russell for showing special leadership qualities, then raised the special Armed Forces Day flag. He was joined by Flight Sergeant Rebecca Roberts, of 1298 Huntly Squadron ATC and Leading Cadet Bethany Watt, of Peterhead Sea Cadets, both nominated by Mr Ingleby.
The AUOTC Drums and Pipes Band marched through the grounds of Woodhill House, playing a fanfare of regimental Highland music.
The Provost presented the band with a special Pipe Banner depicting the AUTOC emblem on one side and the council’s logo on the other. The banner is designed to demonstrate the link between the two organisations, which will run for the foreseeable future. The band then marched back through the grounds.
Guests included representatives of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Royal British Legion, the Reserve Forces and cadets association, as well as Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
I took the opportunity to chat with the guys and girls from the RBLS Riders (see picture). You can find out about the great work they do to support our veterans:
