The construction of the AWPR/Balmedie to Tipperty is now underway.
Over the coming weeks and months, the works will become increasingly visible and the outline of the new road will begin to take shape.
Aberdeen Roads Limited is currently undertaking site clearance, site access works and fencing across the 58 km site, as well as constructing the main site office in Stonehaven and section offices in Craibstone and Balmedie. Utility companies are also undertaking works along the route.
The contractor has also taken over the operation and maintenance of the A90 between the Murcar Roundabout and Ellon Roundabout.
To help keep you informed of the project, an e-zine will be distributed later this month. You can subscribe to the e-zine by visiting the AWPR/B-T website at http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/project/aberdeen-western-peripheral-route-balmedie-tipperty.
Aberdeen Roads Limited will also be publishing its first quarterly newsletter shortly. Hard copies of the newsletter will be available in libraries and on the AWPR/B-T website. We will let you know when the newsletter will be available before it is distributed.
It is also the intention to hold an information evening in May once the main site office is open. More details will be provided on this when they are available.
During construction, it is expected that around 1,500 people will be working on the AWPR/B-T project. This includes over 100 training and vocational places, which will ensure the project is providing opportunities for people to enter the workplace.
Once complete, the new road will improve journey time reliability, reduce congestion, increase safety and provide opportunities for better public transport. Over the next 30 years, it is also expected to generate £6 billion for the north east economy and create more than 14,000 jobs.
Transport Scotland will provide additional updates over the coming months including Council and Community Council Briefings, exhibitions, issue of regular e-zine, flyers issued to residents, quarterly newsletter and website updates. A dedicated project helpline number and email address will also be made available.
