Coming soon to Cluny…………..

The car park area at Cluny School has been extended and space incorporated in to the bin store for a public recycling point. Materials collected will be paper, cardboard, clear glass, brown glass, green glass, plastic bottles, cans and textiles. Hopefully this facility will be in place week commencing 17th June 2013.

Is this a joke? You want to put MORE traffic into a school car park? What is wrong with the facility in Sauchen? There are only a handfull of houses within walking distance so driving is the only option for most and the facility in Sauchen is perfectly placed to cope.

I look forward to hearing your explanation of why you think it is acceptable to put the safety of primary school children at risk.

This is a ridiculous idea. We were told the improvement to the front of the school was for safer access for the bus and for parents/teacher parking. Now you want everyone and their dog pulling up outside school (While the children are playing). What is wrong with the purpose built one in sauchen (which we use everyday). I am not happy with this one bit I have children that go to this school and know that other parents will agree with me that this will put the safety of our kids at risk who knows who will use dropping off recycling too ooggle at our kids it’s disgusting!

    Dear David and Julia

Thank you for your messages and I understand your concerns. Cluny School currently have paper and cardboard recycling facilities and as such are serviced by these recycling vehicles. New regulations come into force in January 2014 which will require the school to separate all material that can be recycled – so other waste streams will need separate collections. Therefore the servicing needs of the bin store will be little different if there is a publicly available facility or not. The recycliing point at Sauchen is well used and has little room for further expansion so the Cluny Recycling Point will offer an alternative for more outlying residents, parents of school children and the staff of Cluny School to recycle without making an additional journey. We do not anticipate that the facility will be used by a large number of people but allows another option and spreads the load. The recycling point and bin store is not within an area that pupils have access to and should not cause any additional risks. Collections will where possible be undertaken outwith times that pupils will be entering and exiting the school.
In addition, as hosts of a recycling point, Cluny School will save on their costs of recycling collections and further to that the textile recycling will be a fundraising opportunity for the school.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

    Best wishes
    Iris
