Garioch Area Committee approves plans for Proctor’s
The plans for alterations and extension to Proctor’s were finally passed today. As local residents will know, this former orphanage has lain empty for over 20 years. The property was bought by a local couple keen to preserve and enhance Proctor’s and make it a unique family home.
Although the project had huge local support, the planners recommended refusal back in February. They had concerns about the size of the extensions.
More information came forward this time round regarding the financial viability of the project as well as slight alterations to the side extensions and fortunately committee unanimously agreed that it should be approved after much discussion and a representation from both local community councils.
The importance of the building and it’s history is well documented in famous local resident, Jessie Kesson’s novels and also in local historian Jim Fiddes’ books. Those pieces of history will not diminish and indeed residents have recently moved in to Kesson Gardens, a clutch of new homes tucked in to the edge of Kirkton of Skene and a constant reminder of the connection to the orphanage.
It’s going to be so exciting to see the lights on again at Proctor’s.
