Council adopts new roads and footpaths in Westhill and Skene

As per the attached report presented to Garioch Area Committee yesterday, councillors agreed to approve the addition of roads and pathways to the Statutory List of Public Roads. This means that the roads and paths have been completed to a satisfactory standard by the developer and maintenance will now be the responsibility of Aberdeenshire Council. Residents are advised to check their factoring arrangements with regards to winter maintenance fees etc. Some residents have noticed that grit bins put in place previously by the developer have disappeared. It should be noted that Aberdeenshire Council may not necessarily replace them if the location does not fit with council criteria, for example if there is another grit bin within 100m, if the facility will only be of benefit to a small number of properties or if the facility will obstruct pedestrians, road users or operatives. If you want the council to consider your area’s suitability for a grit bin you should email roads@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

As residents are being expected to be more self-sufficient, I have asked that the criteria for provision of grit bins be reviewed to enable more streets to qualify.

Please note that streets and paths in your area outwith the ones marked on the attached map remain under the responsibility of the developer or factor until such times as they are adopted.
